I’m magically attracted to circus spectacles and circus performers. Brazil’s Unicirco is such a circus I’m very familiar with. I know everyone of the circus, how these artists excite me with their colors, music, performances! All Unicirco shows don’t use animals and in addition it is a social project: Unicirco is a school for young people of slum population.
Each show of Unicirco is a performance about a tribe, the ancestors of Brazilian people that are living to this day in the rainforest in harmony with nature.
These shows are a feast for the senses. Jugglers, clowns, trapeze artists and dancers perform perform wildly to the rhythms of live rock music.
The clowns are my favorites with their many facial expressions and comical situations. But have you ever seen a traditional dreamy flight of trapezists? Well worth a journey to Rio de Janeiro where I’m about to exhibit my Unicirco work.
For a recent project I photographed the circus during a whole year, using a Nikon D300 with the 17-55mm F2.8 and 80-200 F2.8 zooms.
