The Kāmera Sūtra a.k.a. Camera Sutra is the hallowed ancient tome widely considered to be the standard work on human camera and tripod behavior and handling. A portion of the work consists of practical advice. It is largely in prose, with many graphic explanations inserted. “Kāma” or “Kāmera,” which is one of a photographer’s many aims in life to achieve, means real gear pleasure, and “sūtra” metaphorically refers to a collection of aphorisms in the form of a manual. Hence the Kāmera Sūtra — or Camera Sutra in its Anglo-Saxon transliteration.
Contrary to popular perception, Kāmera Sutra is not just an exclusive photographic gear handling manual. It presents itself as a guide to a virtuous and gracious living that discusses the nature of love, family life and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life. Hence, therefore, the reference to camera gear.
Or… you’ve never found yourself in an embarrassing photographic position? Right, we photographers are a serious bunch of guys. Now which one’s your favorite? Or know a more exciting one? Explain!
