“Never Underestimate the Power of a Still Frame” — National Geographic Photographers on Photography

This is a must see video for every photographer. Meet some of the National Geographic photographers who want people to remember their pictures, not their names or what they look like. It’s a video interview with 44 photographers talking about how they found photography, and why they never left. Everyone thinks they must have the most amazing job in the world, yet there are so many reasons why they would never tell you that.

National Geographic celebrates its 125th birthday this October. Documenting the lives of others, its photographers are not your typical photographers. Their good photography, they say, has the power to undo assumptions about the world. Stop time for a moment. Images are so powerful that they can change the course of people’s lives, the course of history, of the world.

Never underestimate the power of a still frame. Make people want to scream for change. Photography as a weapon against what’s wrong out there.

See the whole thing — even though I don’t agree with the last statement:

If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff.

True mastery is to find wonder and interest in what others find commonplace.
